I love this dichotomy. The Christians are determined to put the “Christ back into Christmas” — good luck it’s been eaten by the capitalists. LOL.
The reason why I love this so much is that the Christian conservative right (particularly in America) absolutely fucking love capitalism and being rich and making loads of money and then making some more money. Christmas bursts their bubble every year.
No one cares that we celebrate Jesus’ birth in December. Most people don’t believe in him, or at least don’t believe he was the son of God who died for our sins, then got murdered and rose from the dead and floated up to heaven. No one believes that shit any more. At best he was a nice fella with some good ideas. More humans believe in Santa than Jesus nowadays.
People only remember the food and the presents at Christmas. Capitalism, the ugly fat cow that it is, has swallowed baby Jesus and spat out a credit card.
