6) Golden Toad

Missing since 1989 this beautiful little ripper found its home in the Monteverde Cloud Forest Biological Reserve in Costa Rica. Although once numerous, no one has spotted it since the 80’s. Things aren’t looking good for the little fella. He was declared extinct in August 2007.
The amphibian disease chytridiomycosis, airborne pollution and global warming probably slammed the last nail in the golden toad’s coffin.
