Simon Carman ‘Broke Down’ After His Mum Texted Him Following Thai Suitcase Murder
The 46-year-old Aussie national who murdered a 17-year-old girl in Pattaya, Thailand, reportedly broke down crying after receiving a text from his mum who had just seen the story on the news.
Simon Carman is currently behind bars in Pattaya Remand Prison after being charged with the murder of Tunchanok Donhomla, whose naked body he dumped in a suitcase before he was caught by police trying to flee the country on a flight back to Australia.
Thai police have told MailOnline that upon seeing her son in media coverage of the death of the teenager, the accused’s Australia-based mother, Wendy Carman, sent him a frantic text message.
She initially believed CCTV footage showing her son had been generated using AI as part of a scam.
A police source said: “There is a period of time after his arrest but before the first court appearance, when a judge decides whether a suspect gets bail or is moved to a detention centre.
“During those hours, if it’s no longer needed as part of police evidence, you can use your phone.”
“He broke down and said, ‘Even my mum’s heard about it.’
“He got very upset when he read that message from her, and I think the reality of the situation finally sank in.
“He had given his statement in a very matter-of-fact way before that.
“He was even calm when he explained he had folded her body into a suitcase and put it away in his bathroom.”
Carman has been charged with murder, concealing a corpse, moving or destroying a corpse, and abduction of a minor for indecent purposes.
He did have a glimmer of hope due to a quirk in Thai law that allows criminals to agree financial compensation with their victim’s family in return for a reduced sentence, but the father of Tunchanok Donhomla immediately shot that down, keen for Carman to receive the maximum punishment for what he did.
46-year-old Thongchai Donhomla is still struggling with the loss.
He said: “I am deeply saddened. My daughter had no mother, so whenever she wanted anything, she would find a way herself, and she always helped me too.”
Meanwhile, the teen’s stepmum called for Carman to be “executed” if found guilty.
She said: “I don’t know what else to say… I just want him to face the full consequences.”
Those full consequences could be life in Thai prison or the death penalty. If I were Simon Carman, I’d be hoping for the latter. Even then, he would have to spend a long time in jail before the date of his execution arrives. Will be interesting to see if he even makes it to that date.
RIP Tunchanok and thoughts with her friends and family. Thoughts with Simon’s old dear back in Aus too. Can’t be easy having a jailed nonce/murderer for a son.
