The North Korean dynasty needs desperately to keep people on their knees to make sure they don’t rise up, if they were to loosen their grip for just a second their meager riches would be snatched away, along with their lives. North Korea has never been particularly kind to “traitors” or “spies” or political enemies, so the officials in the North believe (possibly correctly) that if they were to relinquish control they would be almost immediately executed.
The South however has welcomed the findings, saying “the report, which includes results of in-depth investigation showing the seriousness of the North Korean human rights situation, will raise the international community’s awareness”.
The report concludes its findings by calling to action the wider world. They recommend targeted UN sanctions against civil officials and military commanders suspected of the worst crimes.
