Advertising Tricks - The Mark Down

Image VIA

We’ve all seen markdowns on products from trainers to holidays to blow up dolls. It’s important to remember that a shop or a website, or wherever you’re buying the product, are never going to make a loss on something (except if it is a loss leader – see later).

If a company sold stuff at less than they bought it for, they would go out of business pretty quick.

When you see a “for one day only” sale, you’re basically getting to see how much profit the shop normally makes. So, in future, rather than thinking “wow, they are treating their customers really well” just think “wow, they normally rinse their customers.”

Added to that, those “before” prices aren’t always legit. Sometimes the shop has never even attempted to sell it at that price, that’s technically called “a lie” but hey, it’s marketing, so fill your boots.
