Nuclear Disaster
Next up we’re on the border of Hungary and Ukraine. Because of the threat of nuclear smugglers from ex-Russian states even smaller border crossings have Geiger-Muller detector gates. They’re sort of like the metal detectors you walk through at the airport but they detect radioactive substances instead of metal.
This fella rocks up at one such border looking a little woozy. The guards think nothing of it, vodka is cheap and plentiful in that part of the world. The fella looks a little sheepish but eventually goes through the detector and the thing goes wild. One look at the read out and the Hungarian army dispatched an ABC (Atomic-Biological-Chemical) reconnaissance vehicle to investigate and decontaminate the scene.
When the ABC arrived they found the man face down in the dirt, dead. He had a massive wound on his stomach. The idiot had taped radioactive material to his stomach. The ABC found a discarded nuclear waste canister on the Ukrainian side of the border. If he’d kept the stuff in the canister he probably would have got through undetected and he definitely wouldn’t have died.
