Perception: £24 in every £100 spent on benefits is claimed fraudulently. I don’t spend all day at work on Facebook just so single mums can stay at home and buy new shoes!
Reality: £0.70 in every £100 spent on benefits is claimed fraudulently. 70p?!? You can’t even buy a red pepper from Sainsburys for 70p.
3 Unemployment
Perception: Twenty-nine per cent of people think we spend more on jobseekers’ allowance than pensions. The shirkers are stealing our money! We’re ALLOWED to hate them!
Reality: Pensions spending outweighs jobseekers’ allowance 15 times over (£4.9billion v £74.2billion). The elderly are stealing our money?! Er, are we allowed to hate them? (Answer: no)
