Israeli Athlete Responds After Being Called Out By Commentator Live On Air

Bit of controversy at the Winter Olympics this week as the Israeli bobsleigh team were in action.

The Swiss TV commentator spent the whole time talking about how one of the Israeli team members, Adam Edelman, is a Zionist who ‘supports’ Israel’s war crimes. A Swiss forsaking neutrality to call out genocide? Incredible:

Swiss commentator Stefan Renna called out Edelman for his ‘support of the genocide in Gaza’, saying during the contest:

“Adam Edelman, first-time Olympian and self-defined Zionist to the core, who has posted several messages on social networks in support of genocide in Gaza.

“We remind you that ‘genocide’ is a term used by the UN commission of inquiry on the region. Edelman, who notably said of the Israeli military intervention that it was, again, I quote, ‘the most morally just war in history’.

“He also mocked a ‘Free Palestine’ inscription on a wall in Lillehammer on the sidelines of a World Cup stage.

“He asked his followers to send strength to [Ward] Fawaresh when this member of the Israeli team, who is present here in Cortina, [and] was engaged in an operation by the Israeli army in the Gaza Strip in 2023.”

Renna questioned why Edelman was permitted to compete, comparing his inclusion to the ban on Russian athletes, which is a fair point really.

Radio Télévision Suisse (RTS) has since removed the video from their website, admitting that while the information was “factual,” it was “inappropriate for sports commentary” due to its political nature and length, and the fact the commentator was going on about that instead of calling the action, which is actually quite hilarious.

Well anyway, Edelman posted on X to state that he had been made aware of the Renna’s commentary, and said the following:

“I can’t help but notice the contrast: Shul Runnings is a team of 6 proud Israelis who’ve made it to the Olympic stage.

“No coach with us. No big program. Just a dream, grit, and unyielding pride in who we represent. Working together towards an incredible goal and crushing it. Because that’s what Israelis do.

“I don’t think it’s possible to witness that and give any credence to the commentary. We look forward to our final 2man run and then crushing the 4man event, our specialty.”

For what it’s worth, Edelman and his teammate Menachem Chen finished in 26th place (last) in the two-man bobsled event. Whoops. They go again as part of the four-man bobsleigh event this weekend.
