Disney Under Fire For Launching New Kids TV Show Featuring A Superhero Named ‘Captain Durag’

Disney is catching some flak on social media following the introduction of a superhero named Captain Durag in the Disney Jr. series “Hey A.J.!”

Captain Durag flies around with a Durag for a mask (duh) saying things like “help a brotha out!”. He seems to be some kind of modern day Mary Poppins in that he’s cleaning up around the house and teaching kids how to do it too:

Naturally, a load of people online are saying that Captain Durag is an offensive, stereotypical and disrespectful portrayal of black culture, and that they have no idea what Disney was thinking dreaming up this character. In Black History Month, no less!

Disney has since taken down the above video and many other Captain Durag videos from their YouTube channel, but of course, the internet never forgets.

For what it’s worth, a black man created the show. Maybe Disney bosses were too scared to tell him Captain Durag would be an offensive character?
