Leith weren’t about to take this lying down so they set up a website to advertise the plight of the town and started a legal defense fund. By this time some of Cobb’s followers had moved into town including Kynan Dutton and his partner Deb Henderson (pictured below).
Dutton is a spiteful, deluded, hateful man. Not the kind of guy you want in your town. On one occasion Dutton had to be forcibly removed from the town hall by police after a drunken, racist rant during a town meeting. He’d been shouting obscenities and rounded off his shambolic rageful row with a Nazi salute and a “sieg heil”.
The lawyer employed by the town issued citations on Cobb’s home forcing him to make improvements. There was no sewer or running water to some of his buildings so they were condemned as legally unfit to be lived in.
The final straw was snapped when Cobb and Dutton started strolling through the streets shouting and swearing, swinging shot guns about. Police were called and both men are now facing seven felony charges and possibly 10-35 years inside.
So the story ends well(ish), the town can begin to pick up the pieces, but it makes you wonder what could have been. If Cobb had looked after his home better, if Dutton hadn’t got drunk, maybe they could have infiltrated and taken over a full town. Hopefully this won’t be an inspiration for other, more careful fascist dictator wannabes. North Dakota is 90% white which is one of the reasons Cobb decided to move into the state in the first place. He said North Dakota is “one of the last Aryan bastions”. Lets hope North Dakota can live up to their state motto:
