Bloodletting was a common practice based on the belief that you could ‘bleed out’ any ailment. Doctors used small cuts to make incisions though I’m not sure how helpful this diagram proved considering there’s no labels or information about anything whatsoever.

So there it is – be grateful you live in more enlightened times and aren’t roaming the Earth with these guys. After all, you could have easily ended up in one of their Medieval torture devices and no grimy head bandage would have helped you them.
