JOYCE MANOR – JOYCE MANOR

My buddy Ben told me about this band which is really annoying because I hate it when people find out about bands before me, especially when I end up loving them as much as this. Joyce Manor kind of plays scrappy/nasal/gruff pop punk in the style of maybe the Ergs crossed with Hot Water Music via Weezer and Against Me! You don’t really know what the singer(s) are rasping at you most of the time but you don’t really care because it’s all so bouncy and catchy. They are definitely one of the catchiest and poppiest bands I’ve heard recently but are also a band where the scrappy production actually adds to the sound rather than detracts from it. They’ve got a new album out on Asian Man in April which I can’t wait for, but until then here’s my favourite song from the self titled album called ‘Derailed.’ Although this one is actually one where the vocals are a bit cleaner, I still hope that none of the singers have quit smoking for the new record.

That’s it. I’m gonna start doing this monthly (PROMISE!) so you’ll hopefully be able to get educated about a bunch of cool punk rock bands and stop listening to whatever crap music you’ve currently got blasting out of your headphones.
