Stoke Mandeville Hospital (Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHST)

An 18-year-old patient was molested in her bed after Savile climbed into her room through a window in 1973. The report says when she told nursing staff what had happened, it appeared to be an open secret that Savile was a “sex pest”.

An 11-year-old was raped by Savile and left hysterical and crying. A nurse came in and told her to be quiet and that Savile would not do such a dreadful thing and he raised a great deal of money for the hospital. The girl told her father and he made a formal complaint. Savile did not come near the girl again but her father decided that, due to her ill health and not wishing to distress her further, the complaint should be dropped. The girl’s father has since died.

Between 1973 and 1975 a boy aged between nine and 11 and other children were invited to Savile’s porters’ office where they were given sweets. The boy was told off for eating all the sweets. Savile put the boy across his knee, pulled down his trousers and underwear, groped and spanked him. The boy said Savile’s secretary had seen this happen on one of about ten occasions but had just turned around and walked out. He also told his headmaster, who “laughed it off”.

A 15-year-old patient was invited by Savile to his room for a hot drink in 1977 but then began questioning her about her sexual experience and stripped her and had sex with her. The girl never told anyone what had happened and, while Savile had given her his phone number and she tried to contact him in London, she never saw him again.

A 12-year-old girl was admitted in 1977 when she was raped by a hospital porter who she described as a white-haired man with a gold chain and white coat and smoking a cigar. She told a nurse that “the porter hurt me, down here”. She was told not to say anything otherwise she (the nurse) would get into trouble. It was only a few years later that she realised who her attacker had been.
