In the olden days, before small portable video cameras had been invented, we had to take other people’s word for how dramatic an explosion was. Luckily for us, technology now means we can watch things exploding all of the time. Pretty much everywhere is being filmed constantly, not that being continuously filmed is necessarily a brilliant thing of course.

The following dash cam footage comes from Stafford, New Jersey. A house on Oak Avenue was being renovated when something went really badly awry with the gas supply. Cue explosion.

Amazingly no one was killed, but 15 were inured, 7 of which were maintenance workers who were busy searching for the source of the gas leak. Tom Dellane of the Stafford Police Department said:

As the gas company was working to localise and mitigate the gas leak there was an explosion that by all accounts totally destroyed the house at 59 Oak Avenue, there’s nothing left there but the basement foundation.

Take a look at this:

Pretty mental. Although it’s not quite as dramatic as that insane explosion at the Waco fertiliser plant.
