I’ve never really understood why sometimes you head to McDonald’s and only the drive-thru is open, because if you haven’t come in a car then you’re screwed.

Granted, it’s probably only going to happen late at night and is usually down to the safety of the one employee that is working there on the lone night shift, but it completely sucks when you’re dying for a Filet-O-Fish at three in the morning to ease your inevitable hangover. Well, that problem might be solved now, after a McDonald’s in Llandudno, Wales, trialled a walk through lane for customers over the weekend.

Through the hours of 2:30am to 4:00am – the biggest nightclub in the town is nearby and closes at 3:00am – customers will be able to walk in a separate lane to order a meal from their favourite fast food restaurant. The trial was a massive success so the owners of the franchise have already decided that it’s going to be a permanent fixture in the weeks to come.

Here’s what a spokeswoman for McDonald’s had to say about it:

A Drive In McDonalds

The ‘walk-thru’ was a local initiative by the business manager of the restaurant to invite local residents to come and enjoy a meal at the restaurant after their night out at the newly reopened nightclub Broadway.

As the restaurant is in the process of securing a 24 hour license, customers can only use the drive-thru to order food at night, so the ‘walk-thru’ is just a play on how customers can come and enjoy a nice meal, later in the evening.

A nice meal. Right.

Still, it’s a good idea and is probably going to make this particular McDonald’s a shedload of money, so it really begs the question as to why nowhere else in the world has tried it yet, as it’s obviously a passport to printing money.  I should probably look into a trip to Llandudno as quickly as possible to check it out hey, because it doesn’t look like they’re riding them out anywhere else anytime soon? Get a clue guys.
