Matt Hancock is one of the most cringeworthy politicians out there – and that’s really saying something – and yet he still manages to constantly outdo himself with a new major whopper seemingly every couple of months.

The latest one of these came in the run up to the League Cup final between Manchester United and Newcastle on Sunday. For some reason Hancock is a Newcastle fan – despite growing up in Chester, going to University in Oxford, then living in London and now being an MP for West Sussex, maybe his dad was from Newcastle or something? – and decided to send the lads a good luck message to try and make himself seem more ‘relatable’.

I suppose that’s no more cringe than usual, but the problem came when he seemed to be wearing a signed Newcastle shirt that he had previously claimed to have auctioned off during the pandemic to raise £1800 for the NHS. Awkward.

Lol actually that video would be pretty embarrassing even if he didn’t get caught out with the shirt. Hancock has since issued the following dumb statement explaining the situation which is up there with the most unbelievable things that this Tory government have lied to us about:

Really gutted about the result last night, I mean to come so close.

A load of people have been in contact about my shirt that I was wearing last night and they spotted that it’s the same one that I auctioned for charity a couple of years ago.

And what happened was the guy who bought it then gave it back to me as a gift, which is really kind of him, I’m very grateful. So I’ve still got my beloved signed shirt.

Lol is anyone actually buying that someone bought the shirt for a couple of grand in the auction and then decided to give it back to Matt Hancock, who was pretty much the most hated man in the country at that point? Not feeling that one buddy, especially after Hancock was actually found guilty of corruption back then too. Probably just pocketed the money and kept the shirt. Classic Matt Hancock.

Favourite thing about this is just how dumb these people are and how they constantly seem to be getting caught out about stuff like this. Make a note of it or just remember what you’ve said you’ve done in the past FFS. It’s not that hard.
