— There’s no denying that it was unethical as hell for the investigator of Dassey’s own attorney to elicit a confession out of Brendan, but the documentary suggests that the investigator peppered Brendan with leading questions and basically fed him the answers. From the full transcript, that is not the case at all. Brendan not only confessed, he gave a very detailed account of what happened. They had sex with Teresa on the bed, then they carried her out to the garage, where they cut her throat, and that’s where Steven shot her five times with the .22 Brendan said he pulled from above his bed. Then they threw her in the fire. She begged for her life through the entire ordeal. Brendan even cut off some of her hair. Then they cleaned up with bleach and burned all the clothes in the bonfire.

So yeah, that certainly presents the story in a different light doesn’t it and makes it seem like Steven actually should be in jail for murderer. But then again there’s still a lot of blanks involved in the case and the huge question of police corruption to deal with and whether he could have been found guilty beyond reasonable doubt by the jury during his trial with the evidence presented. It’s insanely complicated with compelling arguments on both sides basically, and it seems like the framework of the American judicial system might be the concept that’s really on trial here.

Basically, I don’t think we’re ever going to know the truth and I expect there fully to be a sequel to this show in the next couple of years where even more shady shit has gone down and there still isn’t a definitive conclusion. I’ll be tuning in though, don’t worry.
