I didn’t know this, but apparently “window licker” is an insult to people who are learning disabled. Looks like the guys and girls at LEGO didn’t know that either because they’ve been advertising their new toy called ‘Turg’ as a “window licker”.

The official description described ‘Turg’ as “an experiment that’s gone very, very wrong!” then added that he’s “Part frog, part chicken, part back-of-the-bus window-licker”. Which actually sounds like they did know what it means?

After picking up some grief from disability charities, they made some changes:

As an immediate result of the input we have received,  the product description for the Mixels character Turg has been changed on our website. We have looked at our processes to make sure this does not happen again.

So on the one hand this was a pretty dumb and offensive move by LEGO. No idea how they can explain themselves other than to say they had no idea what it meant (though the description would suggest they kinda did). But on the other hand, doesn’t every young kid dream of having a toy made in their likeness? I’m an adult and even I would love a blogger action figure based on me. That’s the problem these days I guess — people don’t look at the positives.
