Why Being Homeless Is Awesome - Sleeping in Nature

Apparently bushes are actually pretty comfortable when you get nestled in neatly; they’re not as good as a bed, but they are pretty good at keeping out breezes and prying eyes.

As an added bonus, during the night, if you have chosen a relatively large park, you are likely to get some late night visitors. Not all of these visitors will be welcome (foxes, badgers, spiders) but some might well be (ducks, field mice, deer).

Whether you’re a fan of the great outdoors or not, you will now have time to watch the birds dance at sunset and always be awake when they strike up their dawn chorus. You can watch the foxes amble through the streets and get a sense of being the animal that you’d forgotten you were. From the articles I read by people who have experienced homelessness, this can sometimes bring solace. At the opposite end of the scale, domestic dog and cat shit can be a real bummer if you don’t spot it before you lay in it.

So they were the major points that homeless and ex-homeless people brought up as “positives”. I hope they will help anyone who is about to become homeless. If it hasn’t, you can read our survival guide to living in European squats, or our general homeless survival guide. In fact, they will probably be quite a bit more use to you. Sorry about that.
