If the fact that the new series of Top Gear is being almost universally panned with most people identifying him as the source of much of the problems, Chris Evans faces another nightmare today as the Metropolitan police announced that they would investigating him regarding an alleged sexual assault.

Here’s what the statement from the police department had to say:

An allegation of non-recent sexual assault was made to police on May 23.

The allegation was made by a woman against a man, and relates to incidents in Tower Hamlets in the 1990s.

There have been no arrests and no person has been interviewed under caution.

Apparently the incident occurred when Evans was presenting the Big Breakfast in Bow – located within Tower Hamlets – between 1992 and 1994. He’s alleged to have grabbed a female colleague’s breasts whilst also showing her his dick during shooting of the show.

Evans has previosuly denied the claims saying that it was ‘a witch hunt determined to bring him down’. He hasn’t commented on the breaking news today and neither have the BBC, but sources close to him have said that there has been no contact with the police as of yet and no potential interview date has been discussed either. A BBC source has said that he’ll continue to present his radio show whilst this plays out.

However, it seems like even before news of this broke that he was set to be demoted on Top Gear.
