Devastating news for the family, friends and fans of Bruce Willis today as the Die Hard icon is reported to have been diagnosed with aphasia, bringing an end to his illustrious acting career.

Aphasia is a medical condition that can affect a person’s ability to speak, write and understand language, both verbal and written, according to the Mayo Clinic. It typically occurs after a stroke or a head injury.

67-year-old Bruce’s family shared the following (via PageSix):

To Bruce’s amazing supporters, as a family we wanted to share that our beloved Bruce has been experiencing some health issues and has recently been diagnosed with aphasia, which is impacting his cognitive abilities. Bruce will be stepping away from the career that has meant so much to him.

This is a really challenging time for our family and we are so appreciative of your continued love, compassion and support. We are moving through this as a strong family unit, and wanted to bring his fans in because we know how much he means to you, as you do to him. As Bruce always says, ‘Live it up’ and together we plan to do just that.

In a world where real Hollywood celebrities are on a fast decline, it’s sad to see another true legend be phased out of the game. Bruce Willis was one of the greatest action heroes of all time, being perfectly cast as John McClane in Die Hard and setting a standard that I don’t think any action star has hit since:

Not being funny, but this aphasia diagnosis could explain the most recent run of movies that Bruce Willis was a part of. Last year alone he acted in EIGHT really awful, low budget films. They were so bad that the Razzies invented a whole new category called ‘Worst Performance by Bruce Willis in a 2021 Bruce Willis Movie’:

Was Bruce Willis just getting all the work he could, because he knew that time was running out on his acting career? Could be. Not that it matters because no one saw those films and so they won’t play any part in his legacy. Die Hard, Pulp Fiction, Sin City, Sixth Sense, Unbreakable, Looper, RED… those were all awesome movies that Bruce Willis was the main guy in. He always managed to bring something new to the table, even though he was essentially playing “himself” every time. Just an absolute legend of the game. Let’s hope he gets the treatment he needs following his diagnosis and enjoys retirement alongside his family. Thanks for the memories, Bruce!
