Black Creator On TikTok With Tourette’s Gives Her Take On BAFTAS Controversy
The world is learning a lot about Tourette’s syndrome today. It’s just a shame it took two black dudes being called the N-word on stage at the BAFTAS to make it happen.
If there’s anyone who should be leading the conversation around this saga though, it’s black people who have Tourette’s themselves. Meet TikToker Shay – she’s a girl who suffers from Tourette’s, and explains why the backlash that John Davidson has been receiving for his N-word outburst at the BAFTAS is totally unfair:
@sh4ysgrwm it’s an unfortunate situation all around. But the ableism is unacceptable. Having these kinds of tics does not mean that we actively have it in our vocabulary. #baftas #tourettesawareness #foryoupagе #fyp ♬ original sound – shay. 🤍
@sh4ysgrwm I genuinely hope this situation subsides soon. It’s a very unfortunate thing to occur, but AGAIN, we must be logical. #baftas #tourettesawareness #foryoupagе #fyp ♬ original sound – shay. 🤍
Well, that was enlightening. I mean, look, John Davidson might be a racist, but even if he was, that won’t have been the reason he yelled the N-word at the BAFTAS last night.
Contrary to what uninformed social media users/race-baiters have been saying online in the last 24 hours, Tourette’s does not make sufferers say “what they really think”. Rather, it makes them say what they know is the worst thing they could possibly say in any particular situation.
A terrible condition to have to live with, so the last thing Davidson and other Tourette’s sufferers need is to have people calling them racist and whatnot. Fair play to Shay for setting the record straight as someone with first-hand experience.
Unfortunately, Jamie Foxx is not convinced…
