Gavin Newsom Faces Backlash After Telling Room Full Of Black Americans: “I’m Just Like You, I’m A 960 SAT Guy And I Can’t Read”

California Governor Gavin Newsom is catching some flak after a viral video showed him telling a predominantly black audience in Atlanta, Georgia: “I’m like you… I’m a 960 SAT guy” and that he “cannot read a speech.”

Newsom thought this would make him super relatable, but instead he’s being accused of being patronising and racially insensitive:

Newsom said: “I’m not trying to impress you, I’m just trying to impress upon you, ‘I’m like you. I’m not better than you.’ I’m a 960 SAT guy. You’ve never seen me read a speech because I cannot read a speech”.

After receiving pelters all day on social media from Republicans and MAGA diehards including Ted Cruz and Nicki Minaj, Newson let rip with this response to conservative American TV presenter Sean Hannity:

I mean, that is a fair point. As if someone like Sean Hannity actually cares about black people being insulted? If he did, he would have called out the Trump/Obamas situation also. It’s just pure political point-scoring, nothing else.

Well, either way, a bad day at the office for Gavin Newsom. You cannot be saying things like that to predominantly black audiences in the year of our lord 2026. You’re going viral and being accused of bigotry every single time, dyslexia or not.
