Brit Spends £20,000 On Limb-Lengthening Surgery To Gain 7cm And Reach 5’9
A British man has blown his life savings on limb-lengthening surgery to grow 7cm taller and reach 5’9.
William, a London-based engineer, said his height had caused him depression and left him feeling like an “underdog” in life. He spent seven months bedridden, re-learning to walk and enduring excruciating pain, in order to achieve his dream of attaining average height.
William spoke to MailOnline about undergoing the gruelling procedure in Turkey which took him from 5’6 to 5’9 and cost him £20,000 in total:
@dailymail Leg lengthening procedures have surged in popularity across the UK – as young men go to extreme lengths to become taller. An intensive, painful, and often expensive procedure, it involves surgically breaking the bone and slowly pulling the segments apart over several months. Doctors are warning that it can come with serious risks – but the procedure is still being marketed to men as a way to “fix” their height. Critics say it’s fuelling a toxic idea of masculinity. In this episode of Underground:UK, we spoke with men who had decided to undergo leg lengthening – to try understand why they did it – and the impact it's had on them since. On standing 3 inches taller post-surgery, William says: ‘I know I’m not the tallest now, right? But I’m taller. I’m happy, because when I put on clothes, I can put on a pair of trousers now and I fit in them now.
‘I can put on low top shoes and I look good. Before my surgery, I was always wearing high tops, so I can stuff them with insoles and appear tall and then it just made me look weird.
‘But my proportions look great now, like people don’t even notice. It’s not a big difference, but it helps, it counts.’
William initially hid the surgery from his family and said he was willing to die chasing his dream: ‘If I die, I’m at peace, because I’m gonna die knowing that I’ve died chasing my dream.’

Listen, fair play to the guy. Plastic surgery has been giving people bigger t1ts, bigger d1cks and bigger lips for a long time now, so why can’t a guy like William gain a few extra inches in height if it’s going to make him happy? Sounds like it was worth every penny as far as he’s concerned.
Amazingly, this procedure could be available for free on the NHS if you have particularly short legs, but keep in mind that it’s a long and painful process, and can lead to complications like poor bone formation, fracture and infection, and is therefore generally not recommended. For William though? Totally worth it .
