In case you were still on the fence over whether the concept of preferred pronouns has gone a bit OTT, a 29-year-old Australian actor has revealed that he will now be using ‘tree/treeself’ pronouns, and his fans are ready to pounce on anyone who disrespects it.

I wish I was joking…

‘Love, Simon’ and ‘The Flash’ star Keiynan Lonsdale explained:

Okay, this might sound stupid, but I don’t care. I don’t think this is offensive, but I don’t want to go by ‘he‘ anymore. I just want to go by ‘tree.’

Why? Because we all come from trees, obviously!

I want people to call me ‘tree‘ because we all come from trees, so it doesn’t matter if you’re a he or a she or they or them.

At the end of the day, everyone’s a tree. I want to call my friends tree, and me tree, and everyone tree. So, I think like when people ask me what my preferred pronoun is, I’m going to say tree. I’m not high by the way, this is just me.”

O…K then. It doesn’t end there though. Keiynan also has a fluid sexuality that changes every day:

It just depends on the day, sometimes I’m bisexual, sometimes I’m gay, sometimes I feel straight, sometimes I’m not anything.

Still confused about tree/treeself pronouns? Someone helpfully left this guide in the comments to help you be more woke:

Again, this is not a pisstake. Get a load of the dumb arguments these kids are getting into on Twitter:

Amazing. Using tree/treeself pronouns sounds like someone trying to be transphobic and mocking the trans community, but nope, they’re actually for real about it and what’s more you are the transphobic one if you find it stupid. Truly incredible.

In fairness, I’m fairly certain 99% of people are not going to be calling anyone by tree/treeself pronouns, so it’s not something to get worked up about. It’s just amusing to see a tiny minority of Twitter weirdos take it so seriously. What I need to know is that if a person IS a tree, does that make it OK for dogs to pee on them? Can’t act like you’re all about that tree life and then refuse to allow a dog to use you as a toilet. Something for Keiynan and all the other tree people out there to think about.
