Why Being In A Band Sucks - Tour van

“COOL! You’re going on tour!” Well, when I was younger the idea made me excited. It’s like a holiday but with gigs, great! And yeah, it is nice to play a few gigs in a row, you get better at playing and that’s always a pleasure.

On the downside however, you’re stuck in a small, noisy and expensive-to-rent van for hours a day with a bunch of guys who’ve been sweating liberally for a few nights on the trot (probably with at least one member who’s had the trots). The smell really can be intolerable. Personally I smell of ammonia after a heavy, hot show which is delightful.

You’ve just played your gig, where you going to sleep tonight? A hotel room of course… oh no wait, you got paid £8 each to play in front of 23 bemused people in Blackpool, I’m not sure that’ll stretch to a luxury penthouse. How about we sleep in a cold stinking van? Yeah, sure.
