Wild scenes in central London this morning as five escaped Household Cavalry horses ran loose through the city after throwing their riders to the ground during a routine exercise.

The horses have since been “contained” with the help of the army, but not before injuring four people as they rampaged through the streets. As you can see, one of the horses appears to be drenched in blood:

It looks like the horses collided with cars and buses as well, which would explain the amounts of the blood on one of the animals….

According to the Telegraph, the animals were ‘spooked’ by builders in Belgravia who were carrying concrete, which caused them to bolt and unseat their riders, leaving them in the dust.

Which is strange, because these horses do not spook easily. They’re bred and selected for their character, so it’s odd that all five of the horses would have reacted in this way to a group of builders moving things around. Although I guess all it takes is for one of them to bolt and then the others follow suit – they are used to working as a team after all.

I’m sure there’ll be loads more footage turning up in the next few hours, and possibly some crucial dashcam video too to determine what the hell happened exactly. Two of the horses were captured in Docklands – 5 miles from where the incident first started!

All things considered, it’s a miracle only four people were injured. Here’s hoping for their speedy recovery, and the same for the horses too.
