5) Yogi Berra

Good Quality Quotes - Yogi Berra

“A nickel ain’t worth a dime anymore”

We’ll end this selection of quotes on a hysterical high with Yogi Berra. Berra had a 19 year long baseball career, the majority of which was spent with the New York Yankees. He was declared Most Valuable Player of the American League three times so he must have been good at hitting and catching balls I guess. Along side his top notch ability to throw, hit and catch a ball he was well known for his mangled sayings. He’s credited with being the first person to have ever said “It ain’t over till it’s over”.

He was born Lawrence Peter Berra but got his nickname from a team mate who said he looked like a Hindu yogi when he sat cross armed and legged whilst waiting to bat. Berra actually tried to sue Hanna-Barbera for defamation after they named everyone’s favourite cartoon bear Yogi. Hanna-Barbera said it was purely coincidental but that’s obviously bollocks. Yogi is the proud holder of the Boy Scouts of America’s highest adult award – the Silver Buffalo Award.

Here’s a few more Yogi classics because they’re great…

“Always go to other people’s funerals, otherwise they won’t come to yours”

“It’s like deja-vu, all over again”

When talking about a particular restaurant: “Nobody goes there anymore. It’s too crowded”

“90% of the game is half mental”

And lastly, here’s one that could actually be deep and meaningful if you didn’t know it was one of his:

“When you come to a fork in the road, take it”
