Oscar, or to give him his full title Oscar Fingal O’Flahertie Wills Wilde was one of London’s most popular playwrights in the early 1890s and still is in many circles. He was another British institution that ran into a spot of bother for being on the wrong side of the sexuality fence. He endured two years hard labour for being attracted to me. Oscar eventually died of cerebral meningitis as a pauper in Paris at the age of 46 under the assumed pseudonym of Sebastian Melmoth.
