YouTuber Did An Impression Of Person With Down Syndrome Years Before Terminating Pregnancy
Well, this is awkward. A resurfaced video showing YouTuber Jesse Ridgway impersonating someone with down syndrome has gone viral, just days after he and his wife, Ashley, put out a video announcing they had terminated her pregnancy due to the unborn child being diagnosed with the condition.
In the footage, Ridgway uses a stereotypical voice and mannerisms usually associated with mocking individuals with special needs.
It was filmed as part of a skit where Ridgway is held at gunpoint forced to cycle through a bunch of different personas, including one where he has downs syndrome, literally saying in the clip: “I have downs syndrome”…
Ridgway has defended the clip, explaining that it was filmed years ago and he was playing a character, and arguing that the portrayal was meant to be performance art rather than mockery. Lol – of course.
Now obviously Jesse Ridgway isn’t the only comedian to have made fun of the way disabled people talk. The comedy world was a different place back when he made this video. Still, it’s a tad ironic given what happened the other week when he and his wife put out an emotional video explaining their choice to abort their down syndrome baby.
A lot of people are calling it “karma” but I reckon that’s a bit harsh. Why would karma come for Jesse Ridgway and not many other people who have made far more diabolical life choices? Like he said – it was performance art!
In any case, the explanation behind their choice to abort the baby was perfectly reasonable, even if you might not make the same choice…

Then again, much of the criticism is also because of the conscious decision the couple took to turn their down syndrome child’s abortion into monetised content on social media.
Well anyway, the good news is that most of the online world does seem to be supportive of the couple’s decision, but then I guess “thanks for being so nice everyone” isn’t as monetisable as “we’ve seen the darkest side of humanity.” Don’t hate the player, hate the game.
