4.BRUCE WILLIS – RESPECT YOURSELF

Bruce Willis

Look it’s everyone’s favourite policeman/ghost/star of Friends Bruce Willis. Known more for his action roles and marriage to Demi Moore, it seemed at one point in his life Bruce wanted to branch out into the music world.  His debut album reached #14 on the Boardwalk 200 which is actually very impressive and his cover of the The Drifters’ classic “Under the Boardwalk” actually reached #2 in the UK charts. Good work 1987 Britain…

This is not really about the cover of The Staple Singer’s “Respect Yourself” though – The singing’s alright and to be fair it’s Bruce Willis so I wasn’t expecting much in the way of vocal range. It’s in the list mainly for the video. It might be just a testament to Bruce Willis’ star power and sheer alpha male magnetism, that even as his alter ego of Bruno (unfortunately not as the Sacha Baron Cohen version, but what a remake that would be), he can fill a seemingly empty bar with dancers and a sassy back-up singer in a matter of seconds just with his voice and 80’s dance moves.  In the classic primary school story ending, “Bruno” wakes up and it was a wonderful cliched dream.
