Whilst Insomniac’s Wolverine game doesn’t exactly fall into the same realms of GTA 6, the fact is that their Spiderman franchise is one of the most successful of the past decade and people were hyped about the same studio taking the reins to bring Logan’s adventures to a next generation console so the recent Wolverine leaks and the circumstances surrounding them are definitely worth talking about.

In case you hadn’t actually heard about it, a ransomware group hacked Insomniac last week and demanded $2 million in Bitcoin in return for not releasing the data onto the internet. Much like Wolverine himself, Insomniac decided to call their bluff and it hasn’t worked out for them with a whole shedload of stuff finding its way onto the world wide web last night.

Here’s what we know so far:

– The game will release in 2026, with an X Men game following in 2030
– Leech, Davina, Tyger Tiger, Mystique, Callisto, Omega Red, Sunfire, Sabretooth, Mr. Sinister, Jean Grey, Sasquatch, and Deathstrike will all appear in the game.
– Liam McIntyre (Gears of War 4, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, The Flash TV series) will play Wolverine.
– The plot will follow Wolverine and Jean Gray, two begrudging allies, as they fall in love while working to stop Mr. Sinister and Team X from hurting innocent mutants.

There’s also some gameplay footage which is in its very early stages but looks pretty much like anyone who has played the Spiderman games would expect it to look. Basically loads of enemies fighting Wolverine and getting their asses kicked as well as loads of jumping around and doing fun stuff:

Yeah I don’t think there’s much there that I didn’t expect but still cool to know it’s happening and going ahead.

However, the disturbing part about all these leaks is that for some reason though the hackers also decided to release the passport and social security details of some employees. Seems a bit unnecessary? I guess hackers are gonna hack though and the Wolverine leaks weren’t enough to show Insomniac that they mean business.

Really bizarre series of events but I suppose that’s just par for the course in 2023 now isn’t it? Not really sure how Insomniac and their workers come back from this but hoping this hasn’t affected them too much, even if I did sort of enjoy seeing the footage and learning about the game.

For more of the same, check out when Keanu Reeves said he wanted to play Wolverine. How good would that have been?
