A.A. Milne’s original ‘Winnie the Pooh’ lapsed into the public domain on January 1, 2022, which means anyone can use the character and likeness without worrying about copyright. Sure enough, someone’s already developed ‘Winnie the Pooh: Blood & Honey’ – featuring a feral Winnie the Pooh and Piglet going on a murderous rampage.

Here are some stills via Variety:

The plot sees Pooh & Piglet go on a killing spree after being abandoned by a college-bound Christopher Robin, who neglected to leave them any food. Obviously that means they have to fend for themselves, thus returning to their feral animal roots in order to hunt down and kill their prey.

People forget – Winnie the Pooh used to carry a shotgun:

It’s entirely possible A.A. Milne is rolling around in his grave at the thought of someone reimagining his beloved cartoon creation, much less reimagining it as a slasher/horror movie, but TBH I cannot wait to check this out when it’s released later in the year.

Makes you wonder what other kids’ favourites could be reimagined as horror films in the modern day. Is Bambi public domain yet? How about the Very Hungry Caterpillar? If all goes well with Winnie The Pooh: Blood & Honey, we could have new, terrifying sub-genre on our hands. Can’t wait.
