Arsenal – Why It’s Impossible to Like Them

How can anybody be expected to like Arsenal when their own fans don’t even know if they like them. One week the fans will laud their team’s awesome power and cry ‘IN WENGER WE TRUST,’ and the next week we hear, ‘Wenger has really taken this club as far as it can go, he needs to leave, put it this way, either he goes or I go!’ Ummm tough choice for the Arsenal higher-ups that one. Maybe go back and re-formulate your argument.

Another infuriating characteristic in your typical ‘Gooner’ is their buying into this misconception that opposing defenders aren’t allowed to make contact with anybody in an Arsenal shirt. Now, I understand, there have been two horrific leg breaks in recent seasons on two Arsenal players. The fact is though, this was down to bad luck. Neither tackle was malicious it was just ill-timed. There were never any complaints about some of the tackles that Vieira, Lauren, Flamini or Tony Adams used to throw themselves.

In fact, just this season, in the game against Liverpool at the Emirates, the aforementioned Emmanuel Frimpong made a disgusting challenge on Lucas that could very easily have been an ankle-breaker, yet no Arsenal fan made any mention of this needless roughing up of an opponent. The fact is accidents happen, so stop dwelling on them like your team are some innocent victims who play the game in the right spirit because more often than not they don’t. They’re just as bad as any other team.

Piers Morgan is an Arsenal fan too and, frankly, that is just flat-out disgusting.
