People are always complaining that modern-day rappers who rap about shooting and stabbing people are all talk and lack the authenticity of legends like Biggie & 2Pac, so full marks to Ryan Maqsood AKA ‘Rashy’ for “keeping it real” in that regard.

Unfortunately for the 26-year-old drill star, his lyrics have secured him 27 years in prison after they contained details of a brutal gang stabbing that only someone who was involved in the incident could have known about.

As per the Evening Standard, CCTV footage captured Rashy and 6 of his buddies on push bikes as they hunted for rivals in Farringdon, London. Two of the riders are seen chasing down the 16-year-old victim, who was stabbed 19 times with Rambo knives and left for dead.

Detectives found a rucksack hidden inside some bushes nearby containing DNA belonging to Rashy, which also matched a swab taken from one of the knives inside. However, it was these confessional lyrics from a recording found on Rashy’s phone that really left no doubt as to who did the stabbing:

‘Aim for the lungs, intestines, kidneys, send one of them down under, Sydney/ Don’t try and jump on cars, Legs and chest bro, Shave that head like Britney.

Last time I stepped in Bourne bro, Carved up his face like pumpkin/ Now little man gotta hide his face..he’s looking a mess I’m serious.’

Sure enough, it all went down on CCTV the way that Rashy describes in his lyrics. The young victim, who suffered wounds to his face, chest and legs, wanted no part in the trial, but fortunately the court was able to find Rashy guilty of attempted murder regardless, and he will now spend the better half of three decades behind bars.

Detective Sergeant Katy Phipps, who led the investigation, said:

‘[The teenager] is extremely lucky not to have succumbed to his injuries.

The evidence we gathered during this investigation left the jury with no doubt as to his guilt, despite the fact the victim did not wish to assist police.

The drill music recovered from Maqsood’s phone included very specific details that we believe could only have been known to someone who was there when the incident took place.’

Just goes to show – if you’re on the roads, it’s probably not a good idea to become a rapper as well. Or at least have enough sense to not snitch on yourself on your own tracks. Although in this case, he was dumb enough to leave the weapon and his DNA in a nearby bush, so he’d probably be sent down either way. The type of brains you’d expect from someone who would stab you 19 times and then make a song about it.
