Well, they got there in the end. 22 minutes after the first 999 call and 5 random stabbings later, police officers managed to taser and subdue the man who went on stabbing rampage through Hainault, northeast London earlier today.

Watch the footage taken on someone’s doorbell camera below:

Tragically, the 36-year-old man manage to stab 5 people in the Thurlow Gardens area before he could be stopped, including a 14-year-old boy who died shortly after in hospital.

The suspect himself is now in hospital after being arrested on suspicion of murder. There are all sorts of rumours doing the rounds about the suspect, including that he had just got out of prison after ten years, but I can’t find anything official on that. In fact the police say they haven’t found any evidence of previous convictions – despite “urgent and extensive checks”, so I’m guessing that much is untrue.

What they do seem very certain of is that this wasn’t a targeted attack, which makes sense considering it happened at 6am and he was hanging around outside random people’s houses waiting for them to come out to go to work or school. Could just be some spice head who snapped in the early hours, but I guess we’ll find out in due course.

RIP to the 14-year-old victim – can’t even begin to imagine what his family and friends are going through. Speedy recovery to the rest of the victims too. Hell of a thing to happen so close to the mayoral election this Thursday.
