Prince Harry has caused a bit of a nightmare for his security team and perhaps the Royal family and Britain in general by confessing to killing 25 people in Afghanistan, prompting a response from a senior Taliban member on Twitter.

Anas Haqqani sent the following message on the platform:

“Mr. Harry! The ones you killed were not chess pieces, they were humans; they had families who were waiting for their return.

Among the killers of Afghans, not many have your decency to reveal their conscience and confess to their war crimes. The truth is what you’ve said; Our innocent people were chess pieces to your soldiers, military and political leaders. Still, you were defeated in that game of white & black square.

I don’t expect that the ICC will summon you or the human rights activists will condemn you, because they are deaf and blind for you. But hopefully these atrocities will be remembered in the history of humanity.”

Afghan and Pakistani Twitter are also up in arms about it, apparently:

Declaring how many people you’ve killed in battle is a big no-no in the military world, with ex-SAS sergeant Chris Ryan saying that Prince Harry talking about his death tally was a ‘very strange thing to announce’ and concerns have been raised over the possibility of retaliation by the Taliban against British personnel.

Former British army officer turned MP for Beckenham Bob Stewart concured that soldiers ‘tend to shy away’ from discussing how many people they had killed.

So why did Harry feel the need to tell everyone about this in his new memoir? Well, perhaps he felt he had to restore some of his “manhood” after already discussing how Prince William body-slammed him into a dog bowl and ripped his necklace, after which Harry got on the phone to his therapist and cried to Meghan about it. I’m not sure it’s done him any favours though because all he’s done is open a whole new can of worms and potentially put himself, his family and country in danger. There’s no way this didn’t cross his mind while he was writing his book, is there?

Well anyway, we’ll have to see how this one plays out. I know we’ve gone heavy on the Prince Harry news today but there’s just so many ridiculous stories coming thick and fast in the run-up to his book release on Monday that it’s impossible to keep up. Like this one about the time he visited a medium and made contact with Princess Diana. Deary me.
