Russell Brand Says He Slept With A 16-Year-Old When He Was 30

The age of consent in the UK is 16, but it’s still a little bit nonce-y for a 30-year-old man to sleep with a 16-year-old, isn’t it? You’re basically going as low as the law allows you to go!

On the Megyn Kelly Show this week, Russell Brand confessed to sleeping with a 16-year-old when he was 30:

Brand said: “The plain fact of it is that in Europe and in the United Kingdom, where I’m from, the age of consent is 16, and I did sleep with a 16-year-old when I was 30, but when I was 30, I was a very different person. I was a lot younger, and I was an immature 30-year-old.”

“Consensual sex, actually, with a variety of people when there is a strong power differential, because there is when you’re a famous man that has the ability to attract women that I had at that time, I think involves exploitation. I think it is exploitative. I recognize that my sexual conduct in the past was selfish and I did not apply enough consideration, barely any, I suppose, really, to how that sex was affecting other people.”

Well, fair play to the guy for realising 20 years later how gross and creepy that is. I mean, grown men who sleep with 16 year olds are basically the reason age of consent laws were created. Jimmy Carr has a joke about a country where the age of consent is 12 – “You just know there’s a bloke in jail saying ‘she looked 12 to me’.”

Well anyway, Russell Brand says he’s found Jesus now, so it’s all good. Pretty bold to admit you slept with a 16-year-old at age 30 when you’re currently facing rape and sexual assault charges in the U.K., but we’ll see how that plays out for him.

Brand was originally supposed to stand trial at London’s Southwark Crown Court starting June 16, but last month, it was pushed to Oct. 12.

For the time Russell Brand got a little too handsy with Lorraine Kelly on the Graham Norton show, click HERE. At least she’s age-appropriate.
