Mexico Fans Spent All Night Raising Hell Outside The Ecuador Team Hotel, Trying To Stop Them From Sleeping

Mexico already had the home advantage against Ecuador with the game being held at the Azteca Stadium in Mexico City and all, but their fans still decided to spend all night outside the Ecuador team’s hotel, making as much noise as possible and keeping them from getting a good night’s sleep (or any sleep at all).

Imagine trying to sleep with all this going on – and you’ve got a massive World Cup knock-out game the next day:

Now it’s hard to say how effective this was, to be fair. I’m sure the Ecuadorian national team were prepared for something like this and hooked the players up with some earplugs or noise-cancelling headphones. Maybe they even got a white noise machine going in all their rooms?

Not to mention – in Ecuador they’ve almost got dogs barking in the streets 24/7 and motorbikes revving into oblivion. Ecuadorians can sleep through anything!

Well either way, it doesn’t really matter because Mexico made relatively light work of Ecuador, beating them 2-0 and advancing to the next stage of the competition. Boy, it would have been embarrassing if the result went the other way, especially with all the effort the Mexican fans put into trying to disrupt Ecuador’s sleep.

In the end, those fans were probably the most knackered people in the stadium. I guess those are the sacrifices you have to make to give your team a little bit of an extra edge.
