It’s always fun when someone chooses an outrageous costume to impress/offend/disgust their buddies on Halloween, but are there any costumes that should be completely off-limits? Over the years we’ve seen dramas over Nazi costumes (shout out Prince Harry), Jimmy Saville costumes, aborted fetus outfits, and now… a man dressed as the Manchester Arena bomber:

Mr Wootton said he won 'best costume' at the party (Picture: David Wootton)

Yes indeed, 40-year-old David Wootton is coming under fire for sharing photos of himself on Facebook wearing an Arabic-style head-dress and a T-shirt with ‘I love Ariana Grande’ written in red pen (nice touch, will give him that).

David also shared a picture of a black rucksack with ‘Boom’ and ‘TNT’ scrawled on it in big white letters:

David wrote on the post: ‘Bet I get kicked out of the Halloween party.’ After a number of people on Facebook commented on his photo asking him to take it down, he then shared another status reading: ‘Only went and won the best costume.’ Which you have to concede is grade A trolling, whether you agree with his outfit or not.

One former friend of David’s was more offended and disgusted than anyone though, so much so that they contacted North Yorkshire Police to report the costume as a hate crime.

David told The Sun: “It’s not offensive. It was an adult fancy dress. I didn’t mean any harm to anyone and I deeply apologise if I have.”

Not sure you can insist that it’s not offensive and then deeply apologise at the same time, but hey ho. Either way, I think it’s fair to say that whilst the costume is totally inappropriate and in bad taste, it’s not really a police matter, is it? Let’s see if North Yorkshire police agrees…
