Football Fans Are Freaking Out After FIFA Confirms The World Cup Will Have A ‘Super Bowl Style Halftime Show’
With the World Cup taking place in the U.S. this summer (WWIII permitting), it was only to be expected that they’re going to Americanize the whole thing, and sure enough, FIFA have confirmed that there’s going to be a ‘Super bowl style half-time show’ during the World Cup final.
What’s more, FIFA President Giannni Infantino has announced the show will be “curated by Chris Martin and Coldplay”, and will be a permanent staple of the World Cup going forward.
Sean Dyche is going to flip!

Now I don’t know if “curated by Chris Martin and Coldplay” means that Chris Martin and Coldplay will be the band performing or whether they’re just directing the whole thing, but either way, the general sentiment from (non-American) football fans on social media is not good.
Imagine your country being 3:0 down and you hear this😂💔 pic.twitter.com/5hGBWarbSw

^ It’s a really good point. Imagine being in the locker room 3-0 down in the World Cup final at halftime, and hearing Coldplay or Rihanna or Bruno Mars belting out tunes from the pitch?
Does anyone other than FIFA actually want this? It just makes no sense whatsoever. For one thing, halftime traditionally lasts 15 minutes. How are they going to set everything up, have a concert, take everything apart, and allow subs to warm up in a 15 minute window? They’ll undoubtedly have to extend the break to accommodate this whole thing, which could have a completely unnecessary effect on the players and the game itself.
Fantastic for the artist (or artists) who will get to play for the biggest international audience there is, and for FIFA to rake in a few extra million bucks. But incredibly annoying for the players and coaches and us fans who have to sit through it.
Arguably worse news than the Saudi ambassador confirming that there will be no alcohol at the 2034 World Cup. Leave the beautiful game alone, you monsters!
