2. Cardboard Pork Buns

Now this next case from a couple years back turned out to be a fake report formulated by what I can only describe as a desperate journalist. The story went that some street food vendors in Beijing were caught selling pork buns filled up with seasoned cardboard. Boxes were soaked in a cocktail of chemicals until softened, then mixed with pork seasoning and encased in bao. Pretty horrific and upsettingly drastic, I feel like we’ve all chewed down on a box during our infant years at some point but you probably would never imagine being cheated out of purchasing a juicy pork bun for a seasoned box. Now I know a good chef knows how to make anything taste good — which is why most ‘ethnic minorities’ and those lesser off have probably without a doubt the best food in the world (go peasants!) but damn son. This be that shit I don’t like.

In the report below, vendors even go on to say that most customers didn’t even know the difference. Perhaps, because there was no difference? The dude got busted by the cops but a lot of citizens thought it was a conspiracy and the government were merely trying to cover it up,  which is really poignant to show how stressful it must be at times to feel safe in the city when it comes to the food you consume. It’s breaking down trust between communities, and that’s pretty sad. I’ll let you make your considerations.
