Best Of The Darwin Awards - Hurricane

Us Brits love a winge and a complain about our wet and windy climate but at least we never get hurricanes. Now that really is something to cry about. On August 15, 1969, Hurricane Camille claimed 143 victims along the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Mostly these were people in the wrong place at the wrong time. Most, but not all.

Some thoughtless plums decided to host a “Hurricane Party” in their second floor beach front apartment. The town had pretty much been evacuated but these revelers were confident that the concrete and glass would protect them.

Lesson learned the hard way: don’t frig with the winds. A massive 24 foot wave smashed through their apartment and 20 of them were killed. Those that didn’t die were swept miles away by the waves.
