Boyzone legend Shane Lynch is a born-again Pentecostal Christian these days, and so I guess it stands to reason that he’s now accusing Taylor Swift of performing ‘demonic rituals’ at her shows, and brainwashing her fans into joining the dark side.

Lynch told the Sunday World:

“I think when you’re looking at a lot of the artists out there, a lot of their stage shows are Satanic rituals live in front of 20,000 people without them realising and recognising. You’ll see a lot of hoods up and masks on and fire ceremonies. ”

“Even down to Taylor Swift – one of the biggest artists in the world – you watch one of her shows and she has two or three different demonic rituals to do with the pentagrams on the ground, to do with all sorts of stuff on her stage. But to a lot of people it’s just art and that’s how people are seeing it, unfortunately.”

“When it comes to a lot of the music that’s out there at the moment – more of the hip-hop side of things – there is a lot of hidden Satanic [imagery] and a lot of evil within them, including down to the beats. It’s very real.”

Lynch also recently told a Christian Radio podcast that Beyoncé and Sam Smith were “so demonic it’s unbelievable”, and I guess he is kinda qualified to talk about this sort of thing, being a part of the industry himself for so long. Guess we’re going to have to take his word for it.

Then again, these days Shane Lynch is looking like the local pub’s resident headcase who spends way too much time reading conspiracy theories on Facebook, so maybe he’s found himself stuck in a bit of a rabbit hole…

The word ‘satanic’ does get thrown around a lot when it comes to music and Hollywood and pop culture, but it’s interesting that these conspiracies are always based around the likes of Taylor Swift or Sam Smith and not say death metal bands who are consistently on-the-nose with this sort of thing. Maybe Shane Lynch doesn’t think it’s anything to worry about unless your fanbase is in the millions and you get to perform at the Grammy’s?

Wonder what Ronan Keating would make of all this…
