Lionel Messi finally achieved his dreams – and that of the nation of Argentina – on Sunday when he managed to prise the World Cup from the hands of Kylian Mbappe in one of the most dramatic finals of all time and it looks like his home country is going to pay him the ultimate honour.

I’m sure that Messi will already have the equivalent of an MBE, but it’s now been revealed that the nation are considering putting him on their currency. Newspaper El Fianciero broke the news, saying the following:

The Central Bank is contemplating putting Lionel Messi on the 1000 peso note because it has a 10 in it – Messi’s iconic number.

They also might put manager Lionel Scaloni on the back.

The banknote design would waken the collective spirit of Argentines.

Well yeah I think that’s an absolutely great idea considering how much Argentinians clearly care about football given the grand scale of their celebrations over the past couple of days. Clearly makes a lot of sense.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the bank notes would waken the collective spirit of the world either, given the outpouring of joy for Messi since he got his hands on the trophy on Sunday. He’s even got the most like Instagram photograph of all time now because of it. The world absolutely loves his achivement – except for Cristiano Ronaldo of course.
