Man Taking Down Union Jacks And St. George’s Flags In Birmingham Run Over By Van In “Hit And Run”
A man in his 30s has been hospitalised with a broken leg after being run over by a van in a “hit and run” for taking down Union Jack and St. George’s flags in Birmingham.
As per The Guardian, the incident took place on Mayfield Road in the Stirchley suburb of Birmingham last night – hours before Tommy Robinson’s United the Kingdom march was set to kick off in London.
Tensions escalated when a group of residents began taking down Union Jacks and St. George’s Cross flags that had been attached to lampposts without permission by ‘Raise the Colours’.

‘Raise the Colours’ is either a patriotic and nationalist group or an anti-immigrant group, or both, depending on who you ask.
Witnesses reported seeing the group’s logo on the side of the van as it fled after running the man over.
The poor guy suffered a broken shin bone. He remains in hospital following surgery to place a screw in his leg.
The van was later found abandoned and recovered by police on nearby Prince Road, with West Midlands Police now examining forensic evidence and reviewing CCTV and social media videos of the clashes that preceded the incident.

Local community group Stirchley is For Everyone released a statement calling the attack a “dangerous escalation” after months of facing harassment, doxxing, and intimidation from nationalist groups.
The local Member of Parliament, Al Carns, formally condemned the violence. He wrote to the acting chief constable, stating that the Union Jack should be a symbol of unity rather than polarization. He noted that his office has received dozens of resident complaints regarding harassment and physical assault linked to the flag-erecting group.
Meanwhile, Birmingham City Council reiterated that unauthorised attachments to lampposts are a public safety concern and are regularly removed by maintenance teams.
Case in point – the man who died last year after falling from a ladder while trying to hang a Union Jack. Leave it to the pros.
