Price Of A Pint Has Hit £10 For The First Time In London

The price of a pint of beer has officially reached and exceeded £10 in high-end London venues, reports The Telegraph.

Venues such as Stanley’s in Mayfair are selling a pint of Guinness for £10, a pint of Moretti or Heineken for £11, and a half pint for £8.

It gets crazier with bottled beer; Connaught Grill in Mayfair is charging £12.50 for a 330ml bottle of Noam lager or Curious IPA.

This comes after Guinness makers Diageo revealed draught prices would rise by 5.2% in April as operational costs continue to surge. Pub owners told the Morning Advertiser at the time that Diageo seemed “hell-bent on having the first £10 a pint beer.”

Welp, they weren’t wrong.

The average London pint price is around £6.50, with others costing roughly £6.75 in cities like Oxford, so it’s not all bad news. Although you might say £6.50 is an outrage price in itself, especially for those who remember when a pint cost a couple quid.

The bleakest part is that prices will only continue to rise from here.

Camra chairman Ash Corbett-Collins told The Telegraph: “It’s not surprising pint prices are rising across London and the UK, but our pubs and breweries should not be blamed. Extreme financial pressures from the Government are forcing publicans to either raise their prices or consider closing for good.

“The Government must recognise pubs for the essential wellbeing benefits their community spaces provide, and their essential contributions to the economy.

“They must recognise increased employer National Insurance contributions are adding to cost pressures, commit to a fairer business rates system, lower VAT on food and drink for hospitality businesses as well as alcohol duties so publicans can keep their doors open and pub-going becomes affordable again.”

It’s not as bad in the rest of the U.K., where the average pint price is £4.52. However, UK pubs are closing at a rate of roughly one per day, with 366 pubs lost for good in 2025. Bleak times indeed!
