Lena Dunham Says Adam Driver Was ‘Verbally Aggressive’ on ‘Girls’ Set, ‘Hurled Me’ Around During Sex Scene And Threw A Chair After Snapping In Rehearsal
Big week for celebrities accusing each other of doing terrible things. First we had Ruby Rose going to the police over Katy Perry rubbing her minge in her face 20 years ago, and now we have Lena Dunham accusing Adam Driver of being a complete pr1ck to her on the set of Girls.
Dunham, 39, just put out her memoir Famesick in which she details several allegations of “violent” and “feral” behavior from co-star Adam Driver. Among them…
- During a late-night rehearsal in her trailer, Dunham describes “dissociating” and struggling to remember her lines. She claims Driver eventually snapped and screamed: “F’ING SAY SOMETHING”, “WAKE THE F UP,” and “I’M SICK OF WATCHING YOU JUST STARE.’” before hurling a chair at the wall next to her.
- Dunham alleges that Driver was “unpredictable” during sex scenes, and that her planned blocking “went out the window” as he would “hurl me this way and that”. She notes that at the time, there were no intimacy coordinators on set (the show ran on HBO from 2012 to 2017).
- Dunham describes Driver screaming in her face on other occasions and claims he once punched a hole in his trailer wall because he was unhappy with a haircut.
On the sex scene in particular where she suggests Driver took liberties: “Stunned, I couldn’t speak for a moment, unsure of what had happened – had I lost directorial authority, allowed the scene to go off the rails, not given proper instructions?
“It wasn’t that I felt violated — and I also wouldn’t know if I had, as there was little in my sexual life that I hadn’t allowed to happen, and for no pay. But I felt that something intimate, confusing and primal had played out in a scenario I was meant to control.”
Why has she waited all this time to say anything? Well, Dunham told The Guardian that she believed such “evisceration” was simply what “great male geniuses” do. She also states that after the series wrapped in 2016, Driver told her, “I hope you know I’ll always love you,” but she claims she hasn’t heard from him since.
It sounds like he made quite an impression on her, as she even admits she “spent an inordinate amount of time wondering if Adam liked me.”

She added: “He could be short-tempered and verbally aggressive, condescending and physically imposing. He could also be protective, loving even.”
Wow, the guy sounds like a real enigma.
As well as starring in Girls, Lena Dunham was also the executive producer of the show, so she could have done something about Adam Driver if she really wanted to. It just sounds like the guy left her utterly head-fvcked on set, and even more so after he stopped chatting to her when the show was wrapped up. Maybe he’ll have something to say about these comments once he gets wind of them?
