The Annual Military Draft Lottery Has Taken Place In Thailand As Young People Learn Their Fate
In Thailand, the annual military draft lottery in April requires men aged 21 – 26 to to draw a card: red means two years of mandatory service, and black means exemption.
It’s really down to pure luck whether you will spend two years in the army or not, and as you can imagine, this leads to an ultra exciting/stressful event where young Thai men learn their fate in front of family and friends. Here are some of the clips from 2026 draft…

Lol – how can you not love Thai people? The maddest part is that if you refuse to go you get marked as a draft dodger and face three years in prison. After those three years, they’ll send you to the army anyway. So best to just suck it up and do your time if you’re unfortunate enough to have picked a red card out of the box.
Your only other options are either becoming a ladyboy or (I imagine) coming from a rich enough family to buy out your service.
Thoughts and prayers to anyone who drew red this year – especially the gay lads of which there is apparently an abundance. I mean, these clips don’t go viral without them really, do they?
