5) New Mountain Dew Flavour

Online Competition Fail - Mountain Dew 2

Mountain Dew, if you ask me, is a particularly over rated fizzy drink. It is nothing more than average. I don’t understand its huge popularity over the other side of the pond, so I’m particularly pleased that this viral marketing campaign was made a mockery of.

A pizza place came up with a new apple version of Mountain Dew, they decided to run an online competition to name the drink, hilarity ensued.

Amongst the top runners in the competition were “Diabeetus,” “Fapple,” and “Gushing Granny”. Good strong names, right? But the top contender with the majority of votes was “Hitler Did Nothing Wrong”. What a lovely name.

Pepsico could see that this competition had gotten way out of hand and shut the thing down. That’s a real shame isn’t it?

Although these demonstrations of “people power” are flimsy at best, I think it’s a wonderful thing that we can still turn the tables on the bigger guys when we want. The internet is awash with advertising, marketing and rinsers, which is fair enough, you can’t expect something for free. But I must admit I absolutely love it when big companies are communally turded on by a flock of internet goons. Kudos netizens.
